Succulents Box: November Top Fan & December 2020 Subscription Boxes

Hello, everyone!

How were your holidays? December flew by and it’s already January! I’ll make a post soon to recap what we’ve been up to and to hear what you’ve been doing lately. For today, I’m ecstatic to share with you some new plants! I originally planned to share this post earlier, but I was skeptical about a plant I received and wanted to wait until I got back to confirm a plant’s name.

Some external links may be affiliate links, but the opinions are 100% my own. You can read more information on my Affiliate page.

The December boxes were delayed because the staff at Succulents Box’s new location in California had to evacuate due to wildfires at the first of the month. Thankfully, from what they shared, the firefighters extinguished the fire and no plants or people were harmed!

I’m loving these new little guys even more now that I’ve had them for a few weeks!

November Top Fan Box

I placed my Top Fan Box order on November 30th and didn’t receive the plants until December 14th. I was nervous about them surviving the trip but I don’t think they were actually shipped until like the 8th, maybe. It’s a conflicting time to order since the USPS is super busy, especially right now, but I am continuously ordering more and hoping they survive. I’m super happy that these plants endured the trip; Succulents Box is great about replacing plants if it were the case. Also, thank you April at Succulents Box for packing my order so well!

Our picks this month were the Lithops, also known as Living Stone, Variegated Ghost Plant, and the Crassula Red Pagoda Shark Tooth. I chose the first two and Stephen chose the last one.

Lithops have been on my bucket list from the very beginning and I’m so thrilled to finally get them! They look peculiar but seem to be easy to take care of. Their root systems are wonderful, so it’s reassuring to know that they have a higher chance of living. These succies are an assortment of colors and it’s neat to see how they look whenever they mature! One color makes them look like brains! So fun.

I fell in love with the Variegated Ghost Plant and I’m glad to have gotten it whenever I did because they sold out a few days later! When receiving it, the stem was a bit crooked and it’s etiolated. After putting it under my grow light, the stem seems to be straightening up and the angle of the curve is more obtuse.

We were away for almost a week for Christmas and I worried about my babies like crazy! We returned on Wednesday and I noticed that it has these spots on its leaves. This is worrisome but it seems to be okay. I’m thinking that maybe it’s because of the increase in sun exposure, but I’m not fully sure yet. I’m keeping an eye on it and I’m reducing the amount of light it gets just in case. Luckily, it’s not a bug problem because I checked today!

The Shark Tooth had a small plant baby! Unfortunately, the baby ended up dying. I potted them together at first but then I worried about the mother plant because it was wrinkly and the leaves were all limp. You can somewhat tell in the picture. As far as I know, and weirdly enough, the mother plant appeared under-watered and the baby one looked and felt overwatered. The leaves from the mother plant had dark spots on its leaves and appeared to be rotting, so I pulled off most of the leaves on one side of the plant. It looks rough right now but it has been watered and seems to be recovering.

Since the fire delayed orders, plus mail delays, I worried that this subscription box would arrive whenever we were out of town for the holidays. This order was going to be placed on the 15th and since the last plants took a bit longer to receive, I played it safe and emailed their customer service. They were so kind to place my subscription box order on the 8th and they were shipped a few days later! I ended up getting my box on the 21st, so just a couple of days before we left!

Our box contained two strands of Donkey’s Tail, which are the two small but plump ones at the top left in the picture. The older strands are still doing well and I am propagating three of its leaves! The card in my box says that my other plant is an Echeveria Emerald Ripple. I somewhat questioned it at first but then wondered if there was a chance my plant’s leaves would grow darker. Then, someone in my group posted a picture of their ER and it was much more green, plump, and dark in color. Another person posted their Subalpina Var. Perote Echeveria and that’s officially when I could confirm that that’s what mine was.

I think I was given the wrong card by mistake, [which I didn’t want to assume at first], but I would have been happy with either one. I have recently made a spreadsheet of my plants, which is super fun to keep up with, and I want it to be accurate and to make sure I’m calling this cute little baby by its correct name!

Gifted Succulents!

My mother-in-law has her own succulent collection and she even bought a cute Christmas ornament with baby succies on them!

It is lovely to look at and she gave it to me to see if I can keep the babies alive. I am disheartened by the fact that the plants were superglued onto the ornament, so I had to be extremely careful when removing them.

I removed all the babies from the ornament and now I’m hoping for the best. I decided to leave some of the cute flowers in the soil until they die just because they look nice. The succulents needed light watering but I had to wait until the next day for their stems to callous over to prevent rot.

Look how cute they are!

The Pink Jellybean succie has wonderful roots! I ended up cutting it by the stem and it came off as two pieces. Only one leaf is attached to the root system and hopefully it’ll continue growing! I say these have a fair chance of living. I’ve always wanted one of these too.

Another plant she gave me is an adult Lithops. She didn’t care for this plant and called it a Purple People Eater. I repotted it and it looks healthy!

I’m so excited to see this one bloom this summer! I think my other three are too young to bloom just yet, so this one will be like a trial run on what to expect whenever it blooms and has new growth.

I’m absolutely in love with these new additions and I cannot wait to receive my next order. I received two t-shirts about succulents, so you know I’ll be sharing a family photo soon with all of my children!

Also, Happy New Year! I hope you have amazing things to look forward to this year. ♡
