EveryPlate Review Based on Our First Two Boxes

For some strange reason I put so much stress on myself to figure out what to cook for dinner each week. At first, I had an ambitious moment where I was going to put time aside to list all of the recipes we like and make a schedule that way, but I never did that. My sister mentioned EveryPlate because she and her husband have started ordering meals. In hopes of decreasing the amount of money we spend on groceries, we looked into this meal service. After trying it out for two weeks already, we have been pleased with our meals!

What is EveryPlate?

In a nutshell, EveryPlate is owned by HelloFresh; it’s a cheaper and more simple meal plan. Each serving is $4.99, unless you choose a premium meal, and we’re currently ordering three regular meals a week for $39. You can select premium meals that cost slightly more, but we’ve been sticking with the standard meals so far. You can choose Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday to have your box delivered. We have ours delivered on Wednesdays.

You can view the menus in advance on their website before you commit to placing an order, and you can even skip a week if you want. You can find more information about EveryPlate on their FAQ page.

Week One Meals From EveryPlate

Inside the shipping box the meals are in an insulated bag that keeps the food cold. Also, the ingredients are all packaged together instead of separately.

Our first week of meals:

  • Hoison Pork Sloppy Joes
  • Garlic Rosemary Chicken
  • Super Smashed Burgers

Without realizing it, every side we chose for the first week included potatoes. At least we did well with choosing different meats to switch things up!

Hoison Pork Sloppy Joes

Rating: ★★★★★

These were messy but so good. I do think we probably should have put some of the excess meat on a second bun instead of piling it up on a single bun because most of the ingredients ended up on the plate.

I ate mine with a fork because there was no way I was going to be able to pick up the burger without making a mess. The meal lived up to its name and I love how tangy it was due to the pickled ingredients. Overall, it was the perfect amount of meat because Stephen and I were stuffed afterwards.

Garlic Rosemary Chicken

Rating: ★★★★☆

After making this meal, we had some onion and rosemary leftover. I’ve always wanted to try a meal with rosemary, so I’m excited that I got to finally try one. I’ll need to make this again because the flavor was wonderful.

The one thing I’ll comment about giving this meal 4 stars is because I felt like the chicken breasts could have been slightly larger. Other than that, everything was perfect to me!

Super Smashed Burgers

Rating: ★★★★

This recipe was so simple and easy to make, and it was delicious!

I loved the caramelized onions that went on the burgers; they made me like the meal even more. Stephen added some of the chipotle aioli sauce but I stuck with ketchup and mustard. We were impressed by the quality of the ground beef.

After receiving one week of meals, we really liked the quality and simplicity of the ingredients. I do wish the chicken breasts were slightly larger for entrees like the Garlic Rosemary Chicken. Overall, we are pleased with this company so far!

Week Two of EveryPlate

There was an error made on our order because we received the wrong cards for two of our recipes. I panicked slightly because I thought we got the wrong meals too, but luckily only the cards were wrong. I wouldn’t have been upset with the meals that were on the other cards, but it’s a relief to know we got the recipes we originally ordered. We did get a meal card for the Tuscan Herbed Chicken and I used the EveryPlate app to look up the other two recipes.

The meals we chose:

  • Sweet Chili Chicken
  • Burst Tomato Linguine
  • Tuscan Herbed Chicken

Sweet Chili Chicken

Rating: ★★★★

This meal was so good that I ended up thawing out some chicken and making it for myself for lunch the next day because we had leftover sauce.

The serving size of the rice was huge. Yay, carbs! We don’t have a peeler for the carrots but I winged it. The ingredients for this meal were simple and ones that we always have in our apartment. I’ll have to keep this recipe and make it more often in the future!

Burst Tomato Linguine

Rating: ★★★★☆

This meal was out of our normal because it was made with cream cheese. No meat for this dish, but jumping for joy over more carbs! We don’t usually buy cherry tomatoes because we aren’t crazy about them but they worked well in this recipe.

This meal was delicious and I liked it more than I thought I would. At first I thought I ruined the meal because I accidentally put too much lemon zest in it and it had a strong lemon taste, but it turned out well! It’s funny how much a difference a sprinkle of parmesan cheese makes, but it definitely complemented the taste and added more flavor.

Tuscan Herbed Chicken

Rating: ★★★★

This meal was similar to the previous one, minus the lemon. The taste reminded me of carbonara, so this was a winner in my book! I also thought I ruined this meal because I reserved more pasta water than the recipe called for and dumped it all in the pot without thinking. The taste wasn’t watered down once I added a little more of the seasoning spice that comes with the kit, so all was well!

This was the perfect portion size and I was stuffed after finishing my bowl.

Would I recommend EveryPlate?

Considering the variety of meals to choose from and how reasonable the price is, I think this is a wonderful meal kit service and I’m already recommending it to people! Plus, I’m happy that I’m not putting extra pressure on myself to figure out what to make every day and we’re branching out a little bit and trying new recipes from simple ingredients.

There were hardly any negatives about our first two boxes from EveryPlate, so we’ll keep ordering them! I will say that these do take some time to prep and cook. So if you’re used to cooking Crock Pot meals, sheet pans, or any other quick meals, these kits may seem like a lot of work. I love trying recipes that I never considered making, so this is a win-win for us.

  1. I’m so glad you reviewed these meal kits! I’ve tried Hello Fresh, Plated, and a couple of others but then I got tired of rubbery chicken and “peeling and slicing carrots on an angle”. LOL I might give this one a go. Everything you made looks and sounds delicious!

    1. Thank you for reading; I’m glad you found this post a little helpful! I feel like chicken can be tricky but these turned out pretty well. Even when I thought I was over cooking the chicken, they still were juicy! If you are interested, I have a free box I can send you if you want to try this service in the future!

      1. Oh man, I was too quick! I already signed up and picked my meals! Do you want to give me a code anyway and let me see if they’ll still apply it to that you can get a reward bonus or whatever????

        1. Darn, I’m sorry! I should’ve added that into the blog post whenever I made the review. 😬

I don’t have a code, but I do have links! I think I’d have to insert your email for the free box, but there’s also a different link I’ll attach here. It says you’d get $45 off your box and I’d earn some if you order through the link. That is, if you like this meal service! I’ll share just in case.

I updated my post, so the link is embedded at the end of the post, but here it is in the comments section for $45 off a box also:

          1. I got my first box and had my first experience making risotto. So good! I’m getting a discount and hope you got SOMETHING in return as I was able to update my subscription with your code.

          2. I’m glad the discount worked for you! I haven’t tried the risotto but that sounds delicious too. I’m glad you liked the recipes 😊
