I’ve had a few succulent hauls over the summer and I thought it’d be easier to group together the ones from Etsy for a mega post! I purchased a handful of succulents from Succulents Box again, but I’ll save those to share in a separate post.
This was my first time buying succulents from Etsy and it was an overall fabulous experience!
I was somewhat hesitant about ordering plants from Etsy, but there wasn’t anything to worry about. The shops I ordered from were so kind and the plants were in excellent health and condition! There have been a few plants that I’ve been wanting to get since starting my collection last year and I did a little happy dance whenever I found them on Etsy at amazing prices.
I had been looking at plants on Etsy for months and since my birthday was right around the corner, I deemed it acceptable to splurge on these rare plants. Due to the estimated delivery date falling on the day we’d leave for our NC vacation, I messaged the sellers beforehand to ask if I could have the order shipped at a later date. Both shops were so kind to accomodate this request and I’m immensely grateful!
Etsy Shop: RareSucculents
First Order — 6/12/21
Unintentionally, this first haul was an Echeveria haul!
RareSucculents is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
I ordered an Echeveria Lauii and an Echeveria Mexican Minima cluster from this shop and they are beautiful! I requested that my plants be shipped on the 24th, a Thursday, and the owners of RareSucculents shipped my order without any problem. I received the order on the 28th and the plants arrived thirsty but super healthy.
Echeveria Lauii
I’ve been dying to get my hands on a Lauii and whenever I saw them listed at such an awesome price in this shop, I couldn’t pass it up. It’s a mini pup, but it’s the perfect size because I love the tiny succulents. The pot I planted it in complemented the Lauii’s colors.
Update 7/14/21: I had this plant for like a week and a half and it started turning black in the center. I may have cried a teeny bit because I loved this little plant so much! I’m thinking that it was due to getting too much direct sunlight. I saw on Instagram where someone had an absolutely gorgeous succulent turning black in the middle and the person said it was due to too much sun exposure. To mourn the loss, I ended up ordering 4 more succulents from another shop. Oops.
I didn’t take a picture of it turning black in the middle before pulling off all the leaves. I had a tiny hope the leaves could be saved, but they were all too far gone and turned black within a few days. You can see in the photo where the middle was turning black in the new leaves that were growing.
I don’t think I could have saved it, but I tried my best.
Mexican Minima Cluster
Next succulent from this shop is the Mexican Minima cluster.
Receiving this succulent was a pleasant surprise because I got so many little babies with the parent plant. I thought I’d just get like three plants in this cluster, but there are so many! I had to pull off some dried-up leaves and it’s looking better. I’m sad that the bloom didn’t survive, since I didn’t water it in time, but it’ll be something to look forward to in the future.
Here is a photo of what the cluster looks like after a few weeks of getting settled.
some babies in their own pot.
So much new growth! The old leaves look funny with the small, newer leaves that have quickly grown.
Second Order — 7/29/21
I am so happy with this shop that I ordered from them again.
I was getting anxious, and slightly impatient, about its shipping journey because the label was created on 8/1, which I expected, but then I kept checking day after day and the tracking never budged. On Saturday the 7th, I got a notification saying it was in my city and would arrive that day! That was exciting, only we were going to be gone all day so I couldn’t get them as soon as they arrived.
Anyway, it all turned out well. I was too tired to pot them on the day they arrived, so I unpacked them and potted them the next day.
Echeveria Lauii, Take Two
Since my first Lauii decided to die on me, [so rude] I ordered another one from RareSucculents. The shop was sold out of mini Lauiis, so I ordered a small this time. I’m slightly confused because the small is the same size as the mini, but it costs a teeny bit more. Overall, I am happy that I could have another one for my collection.
I have planted it in the same pot as the previous one. Hopefully that pot isn’t cursed. Only slightly kidding, but that would be unfortunate since this pot is one of my favorites. I’m keeping it strictly under the grow light to begin with, then let it get a little bit of natural sunlight for short periods of time. It’s just as cute as the first one and I love how powdery it is!
The second Lauii’s leaves are a bit longer and less chubby than the first one’s leaves. it’s still cute and alive, so I’m happy with it so far! It looks extremely similar to a White Lotus, which is a cousin of a Lauii. I don’t know how sellers can tell some plants apart in their nurseries because some succies look almost identical to others!
Graptoveria Variegated Titubans
Since I didn’t want to place an order for just one plant, and I wanted to get my money’s worth considering shipping is almost $10, I added a Graptoveria Variegated Titubans, which is another beauty that I really wanted to order the first time. I’m in love with the colors and it’s so chubby! It’s a hybrid succie of a Graptopetalum Paraguayense [Ghost Plant] and an Echeveria Derenbergii [Painted Lady].
It’s a bit leggy and I had trouble planting it at first because it also is slightly tilting off to the side, but I think I have it situated well enough for it to establish more stable roots.
Regardless, isn’t it lovely?! I am still obsessed over these new babies. Planting it in the pot was slightly frustrating because it kept tipping over. It’s not in the center of the pot, but I’m trying to be okay with its lopsidedness.
Etsy Shop: 1amSucculents — Also Placed 6/12/21
This shop is based in Los Angeles, California.
These succies had to travel across the country, but you’d never know because they look amazing!
I forgot to add a note to the seller and I didn’t notice it until I got back home. The seller was still holding my order, thankfully, and I messaged her on the Monday we returned. She shipped the order the next day and it arrived on Thursday, July 1st!
I ordered a Variegated Echeveria Subsessilis and Echeveria Rainbow. This shop had them both for reasonable prices — way more reasonable than what I’ve seen in most shops — and I added them to my cart.
Variegated Echeveria Subsessilis
The Variegated Echeveria Subsessilis is absolutely adorable! I didn’t expect it to be so small, but I’m not mad about it. It’s in a 2-inch pot and I can’t wait to watch it grow! The plant had a few bottom leaves drooping due to the lack of water and sun, but I picked them off.
So cute and tiny, and there are already a few leaves that are growing since this photo was taken last month.
Echeveria Rainbow
An Echeveria Rainbow is a variegated version of a Perle Von Nurnberg. It’s weird how it’s not called a Variegated PVN like some other succulents are, but this one is unique and so breathtaking.
I love in the second picture how prominent and distinctive the variegation is in the leaves. This plant is stunning and I’m so happy to have it in my collection! After having this one for almost a month already, it already looks a little different.
I’ve read that sometimes the variegation can fade and revert back to normal if a plant is not in an environment for it to get a ton of sunlight. I’ve had this one placed in the windowsill and under the grow light and it’s still pink and pretty. I am worried the new growth won’t retain the variegation, but I think it’s doing okay. *fingers crossed*
Etsy Shop: SucculentsDay
This shop is based in Houston, Texas. It’s the smallest shop out of the three that I have ordered from, but they have the best prices!
I placed this order on July 14th as my mourning haul because my first Lauii couldn’t be saved. What’s funny is this shop offered free shipping on orders over $35. Well, I had an Echeveria Monroe, Echeveria Silhouette, and Echeveria Pink Champagne in my cart, and I was $0.03 short of qualifying for free shipping! I decided to also add a single cutting of a Aeonium Greenovia since it was $3.99.
What’s super strange is that this order went to New York, though it was shipping from Texas to Tennessee. That was bizarre and I was so confused as to why it went there whenever my previous orders never have. Oh, well.
This shop’s plants aren’t displaying vibrant colors that other sellers offer. The succies are mostly green, but I’m completely fine with that if it means I get a larger plant for a lower price! I’d be more disheartened to get a super colorful plant and watch the color fade because I don’t have the greenhouse environment, or a similar one, to bring out the colors as vividly.
Echeveria Monroe
I’ve been searching for an Echeveria Monroe and I was in shock that this one was available at such an affordable price! Other sellers had Monroes in other colors but they were like 2 inches in size, plus more expensive. This one needs the color brought out and it’s like 4 inches, which is a pretty rad deal!
I’m so excited about watching it change colors. I can already see some orange/red appearing on the tips. I just need to be patient and enjoy the process! I admire this one a lot whenever I check on my other plants.
Echeveria Silhouette
I haven’t seen many people share this plant in the succulent community. I searched it and it looks gorgeous, so it was a no-brainer to add to my cart.
From the looks of some images, the leaves will be tightly compact and be a vibrant pinkish/purple and blue color. What a dream that will be to see its other colors brought out!
Echeveria Pink Champagne
It definitely doesn’t look pink now, but just wait and see after a few months. A Champagne is a hybrid between an Echeveria Agavoides “Romeo” and an Echeveria Lauii. It appears to have waxy leaves instead of the powdery farina.
The bottom leaves were super droopy, which you can tell significantly in the group photo of these succies, and it threw the plant off-center. You can’t tell from an overhead view, but from the side you can tell it’s leaning a tad bit.
I’ll correct it once the plant needs watering again. I tried pulling them off the first time but they were so difficult and the leaves wouldn’t budge because of its size. I’m waiting until the bottom leaves become more limp to pick off.
Look at the freckles! I don’t have a succulent with these, so it’s really cool to see.
Aeonium Greenovia
This one is super cute and I like how compact it is. Right now, the leaves aren’t as compact and I’m trying to keep it from turning green. It’s doing well still and I like how it’s different from the other plants in my collection.
That’s All, For Now!
The succulents I purchased from Succulents Box were placed after my first Etsy order and I can’t wait to share them on here too!
Which succies are your favorites out of all these beauties?
