What I’ve Been Watching #2

Let’s pretend I posted this yesterday because I’m so off schedule and I was too busy looking at Fossil purses at the mall. Continuing with what I’ve been watching lately, let’s see what’s new or what shows I’m getting through on.

TV Shows

The Bachelor (2002)

Season 24 (2020)

The Bachelor has been kind of a blur the past few weeks since I posted about the first episode. I’m honestly a little disappointed in it because it’s not about love anymore, just drama and how to stir it up. It was definitely not as dramatic or fame-chasing as it appears to be now. I miss how it used to be.

Synopsis:

Peter Weber, an airline pilot who caught the attention of Hannah Brown and fans alike during Season 15 of The Bachelorette comes back to Bachelor Nation looking for a co-pilot who will join him for a life full of love, laughter, dancing and adventure. Peter, who has his heart broken after expressing his love on “The Bachelorette,” is back and ready to capture hearts across America yet again as he looks for another shot at love. Peter’s parents — who met working on the same flight more than 30 years ago — set the perfect example of lasting love for him, and he’s more ready than ever for his love story to take flight.

Highlighted thoughts so far:

• That Champagne-gate stuff was just so ridiculous. Of course that was producer-driven for that to happen. Although, hilarious and so GIF-worthy to make of Kelsey having the champagne spew in her face
• I feel like this past week’s episode was so annoying with Alayah coming back and all the confrontation about her. Is it possible for Peter to even make connection with all this unnecessary noise?
• It was cruel of the producers to have Chase Rice sing whenever he was one of the contestant’s flings
• Peter states Sydney’s name after they both talked about Alayah — good for her standing her ground on what she said — but, Peter, did you really have to state her name? Major target now
• What the heck is lingery and finasco? Lingerie is such a funny word, but, come on, this whole season is a fiasco

I’ve been following spoilers and whatnot, like usual, but apparently the way this one ends will be super different. I’m curious to see how it plays out, especially since they say there will be about six girls left after the two episodes airing this week. Last week’s episode caused me to be I a bit bored and tired of the situation at hand with Alayah.

With how it’s going now, I’m wondering how long they’ll keep this show going.

Reign (2013)

Season 2 (2014)

Synopsis:

The season opens after the death of King Henry II, and follows the rise of Francis and Mary as King and Queen of France and Scotland. Together they have to balance their marriage with their roles as monarchs, and deal with the rising religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants, as well as the ambitions of the rival House of Bourbon for the throne of France.

This was just a huge mess of a season. I think the only real fact in this season is Queen Elizabeth I’s threat and rivalry against Mary and Francis, but I’ll gloss over that aspect. Oh, and Francis’ falling ill.

If you want drama and some heartstrings pulled, this is the season.

Highlighted thoughts:

• Oh Mary, this is the season where you are the worst. Absolute treason against Francis’ role as king and his love for you. Mary’s attack scenes are so powerful, and I cried whenever Catherine tried comforting her
• Leith is still the best and my favorite character. Working hard so that Greer could get an annulment and marry him after all this time only to be rejected, ouch
• Kind of happy for Greer becoming her own boss babe and becoming a madame to run a successful business, but compromising for a life with Leith? No
• Narcisse and Catherine are definitely equals, but that is not a relationship you want to be in. We always knew he had such a soft spot for Lola, the complete opposite of him, which is why they’re so fitting
• I can’t take the Delphine storyline seriously. So many strange things going on and of course Bash is entangled in it all

So much sparking and diminishing of love, who should we root for anymore?

I will say that it’s pretty cool how they did tie in the factual detail of Francis’ illness by using Delphine’s storyline with her saving Bash’s life and healing him, which “causes” Francis’ infection to begin.

Tiny House World

Season 1 (2015)

Judging by the number of TV series dedicated to it, downsizing living spaces in extreme ways is a growing trend. FYI expands its popular franchise — also including “Tiny House Nation” and “Tiny House Hunting” — with a series that spotlights finding the ideal minihome abroad. Buyers in locations as diverse as Paris, Sydney and Dublin visit three homes to see which one best fits their budget and desires. The challenges loom large, however — even in the most exotic and exciting regions. Viewers see how tiny living has taken shape outside the U.S. and learn how different cultures approach design difficulties, space limitations and more.

FYI

Tiny house living is so fascinating. I find it more fitting for a single person, not a family though. It’s so amazing to see what people can do with small spaces! I’ve been watching this series on Amazon Prime and there’s only one season, sadness.

Highlighted thoughts:

• First few episodes, a couple with three small children want to cram in a home that’s less than 600 square feet? I couldn’t force children to live like that
• Why on this good green Earth would you build a tiny house with no toilet or one that has an outhouse? That sounds dreadful, especially given how often I get up to go to the bathroom at night
• I can’t get on board with the tiny homes with no washer or dryer
• They’re so expensive! Why not buy an apartment in the city for about the same price with larger space?
• How are you to wash a normal sized pan in a sink that’s about a foot or so big? Or, do you just not cook much?

Such an interesting concept. You definitely have to compromise if you were to live in a tiny house or camper of some sorts, but that would kind of be a neat experience.

Movies

Aladdin (1992)

Synopsis:

Jafar, the Royal Vizier of the fictional city of Agrabah, placed near the Jordan River, and his parrot Iago seek a lamp hidden within the Cave of Wonders. They are told that only one person is worthy to enter: “the diamond in the rough”, whom Jafar later identifies as Aladdin, an Agrabah street urchin. I can’t even remember the last time that I watched this movie, but I like how new it looks with today’s technology.

I like watching these old Disney movies because you never notice the subtle cheeky stuff as a child. One being this Aladdin quote within the first handful of minutes:

“It’s not every day that you see a horse with two rear ends.”

Highlighted thoughts:

• Did I like the singing in all Disney films when I was a child? I don’t know if I can take it seriously when they start singing, but maybe that’s because I don’t particularly care for musicals
• Why does Jasmine have a pet tiger? Seems a bit reckless
• Never noticed that as Genie is looking through his book, he pulls out past Disney characters — Hey there, Sebastian

Miss Americana (2020)

Synopsis:

The film covers a number of events in Swift’s life and career, including the making of her seventh studio album Lover (2019), her past battle with an eating disorder, her sexual assault trial, her mother’s cancer diagnosis, and Swift’s decision to go public with her politics.

This documentary, just wow. I watched this Friday night and it put me in tears a few times. I’ll never understand how people can be so cruel and hurtful to say mean things, especially whenever the individual has personally gone through the situation or knows someone that has. That doesn’t justify the need to bully and tear a person down, which I don’t think that’s justifiable in any instance.

I’ve noticed that those mentioned in the documentary for saying the hurtful things that impacted Taylor Swift have publicly apologized for their words, which it takes the public eye and rage for an apology? Okay then. I just have no words for people seeking out malicious intents that are supposed to be “funny” for the person being the butt of the joke.

Highlighted thoughts:

• I remember the Kanye being rude and whatnot so many years ago but never watched the footage until this documentary. I’m glad I never did because that enraged me. Never been a fan of him, but if that shows who he is as a person, I’m fine with my current stance about him
• I loved seeing the raw and vulnerable scenes in this documentary. It’s another reminder that celebrities are humans, just like any of us, with real feelings and problems. We’re all just trying to get through life and thrive. Why not help one another out and be kind? It’s so much easier to do that
• You’ll get bullied for being “too” skinny or for being overweight. You’ll never win. Why isn’t the goal to be healthy with whatever body type you have? Bodies are so different, and that doesn’t mean we’re unhealthy

I have so many more thoughts about this documentary, but it was absolutely wonderful. I’ve been a Taylor Swift fan since her start and I’ve loved watching her grow in her career, but now, I have a deeper admiration for her besides being the person to capture how I felt and my love life growing up.
